The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. C L Hopgood
Charles Leonard Hopgood, of Reading in Berkshire, joined the RAFVR about March 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and joined 64 Squadron at Leconfield on 29th September 1940.
He was killed on 5th December 1940, aged 22, flying in Spitfire II P9450. It was shot down over the Channel, possibly that claimed by Adolf Galland on that day over Dungeness, and Hopgood’s body was washed ashore in France.
He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
