The Airmen's Stories - P/O J A G Chomley
John Allison George Chomley, from Southern Rhodesia, probably entered the RAF as a direct-entry Airman u/t Pilot in 1939. With his training completed, he was commissioned and arrived at 6 OTU, Sutton Bridge on 8th June 1940 to convert to Hurricanes.

He was posted to 257 Squadron at Northolt on 7th July. He crashed on landing at Hendon on the 23rd in Hurricane P3641 but was unhurt.
He was reported 'Missing' after a combat with enemy aircraft off Portsmouth on 12th August 1940. His Hurricane, P3662, is believed to have crashed into the sea. Chomley was 20.
His is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 7.
